CG Labs, Inc. uses only top of the line Agilent Technologies (formerly Hewlett Packard) equipment to insure accurate and reproducible
results. Pictured below is (left to right):
- Dell computer with Windows XP Pro operating system running EZChrom analytical software from Scientific Software (now owned by Agilent Technologies) which is used for
data integration.
- Agilent 7694 Head Space Sampler. This machine equilibrates the sample
vials at the desired temperature for the specified time period. A needle
then punctures the teflon coated septum
at the top of the vial and draws a measured sample of the vapor which
it sends to the Gas Chromatograph.
- Agilent 5890 Gas Chromatograph. This machine takes the vapor from the Head Space Sampler and passes it through a packed column designed specifically for alcohol in blood. As the vapor passes through this column, different
compounds will travel at different rates thus exiting at different times.
As the separated compounds exit, they pass through a Flame Ionizing Device
(FID) which consists of a hydrogen-oxygen flame and ionizing detectors.
The intensity of the ionization is measured and sent to the computer for
processing.
- Helium Carrier Gas carries the vapors through the Gas Chromatograph.
- Power Mac G5 Computer with "Tiger" operating system is used for report
generation, correspondence and on line communication.
Because of the versitility and consistency of the Macintosh platform and the integration of the solfware used (Including Virtual PC), data flows seamlessly from initial login on a Filemaker Pro data base to an Excel spreadsheet, to EZChrome and back to the Filemaker Pro data base for report generation. Since data never has to be "retyped", the integrity of the results are assured.
